We spent the whole day at Jamestowne. This was the first permanent British settlement in North America. What is interesting about it is that almost all the real archaeology has been done in the last 21 years. Prior to that conventional wisdom held that the fort was consumed by the James River. Luckily, a smart archaeologist came along and figured that things really don't add up and he started digging. Sure enough, the original fort is mostly on dry land and there are tons of things to be found by digging. We took the two guided walks, had a nice lunch and toured the museum. The weather was nice and the crowds were small. That is one of the advantages of traveling in the off season.
