Two-striped grasshopper (Melanoplus bivittatus) laying eggs

This grasshopper was sitting in the middle of a trail laying eggs. The trail is hard packed stone dust and gravel, so I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for her to stick her ovipositor into that. It was also raining, and she just sat there...THe urge to leave offspring for next year is strong.
