This sign celebrates the beginning of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, BC. The Highway, all paved now, runs approximately 1,300 miles from Dawson Creek, BC to Delta Junction, Alaska. The initial road was pushed through complete wilderness by the US Army, in conjunction with Canadian and American contractors (in nine months in 1942) to support the war effort after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
