We had a strange conversation with DM's parents last week when we were feeling really under the cosh. It went:

Them: What are you doing to celebrate your 50th birthday?
Us: Nothing – we’ve got no friends and everybody hates us. (Obviously that statement was coloured by recent events.)
Them: Nothing at all?
Us: Well, we thought we’d pop into town for a curry on Saturday night.

The following day we got another call from them. It went like this:

Them: Would you mind if we gate-crashed your curry? We’re worried about you, We’d like to help to celebrate your birthday. Can we come by train and stay in a B&B?
Us: You can certainly come, we wouldn’t hear of you staying in a B&B, you must stay in our flat.

So that was that. We arranged details and they arrived today. We had a lovely time mooching around Plymouth in the sunshine, then we went out for the evening. Margaret entertained herself and us on DM's uke. So here she is, big grin in place, enjoying some self-made music.
