Friday evening we headed out to Herräng, there was a forecast of some aurora activity. Not like the magnificent light a week ago (unfortunately I was working then), but hopefully something.
Got help from an experieced aurora hunter with the settings on the camera for this kind of photos and snapped away.
This was one of my first shots.
30 seconds, f/2,8 ISO 1600 was what my friend who has done this kind of photography suggested.
The Nikon D800 lets you crank up the ISO even more without much noise problems.
I think the trickiest part is to edit the pics in PS.
It was very dark out there! The shorter shutterspped, the sharper are the stars. That´s was good to know.
In this photo I used 8 seconds at aperture 3,2 and ISO 5000.
The fog rolled in after an hour of photography so we couldn´t stay longer, but I´m looking forward to more aurora hunts coming winter!
Good way to spend Friday-night with some photoclub-friends!
