Bumble bee (Bombus)

Reveler Conservation Area. This large bumble bee was having real trouble. It couldn't get lift off and kept trying to climb stems of grass and then take off, but it succeeded only in falling back to the ground. Not sure if it had reached the end of its life or whether it was injured. Poor thing. Bumble bees are a primary pollinator and a necessary part of our ecosystems, and in many areas are diminishing rapidly, particularly certain species.

I have to admit I've never seen a bee cling to a blade of grass before but then again I don't look for them :-)
