Cinque Terre

These 4 images give a brief overview of Cinque Terre which is located on the Italian Riviera. Cinque Terre comprises 5 small villages that hug the coastline and are built on cliffs leading to the sea. The 5 villages are Riomaggiore, Manorola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. We stayed in a small hotel on the harbour at Riomaggiore and visited the 3 other villages that are accessible by ferry. The are very picturesque but full of tourists. On Oct 25th, 2011 a huge storm dumped 22" of water in 4 hours on the coastline. Monterossa was decimated. Because the local population had shied away from cultivating grapes on the hillsides the rain was able to dislodge huge sections of earth and the townsite was buried in mud, wrecked cars etc. There is not indication today that the disaster happened.

Hi Rita,
Great shots and love the info. Can't see the tourist from this view point, looks like you took it from a nearby hillside? Like a post card.

Very nice image Rita. When you get back print this out and hang it on your wall.
