Nyhaven (New Harbor), a 300-meter-long canal, was dug in 1671-73 to allow ships loaded with merchandise to sail into the center of Copenhagen. It used to host a red light district when Hans Christian Andersen lived here, but now is full of restaurants, cafés and bars and attracts a more prosperous clientele.
