False sphinx caterpillar (Pheosia rimosa), #7922

Reveler Conservation Area. COntinuing my quest for caterpillars this summer, I was happy to find this one today. It is an especially shiny creature, and the colour can vary greatly. The "horn" on the rear end mimics the horns on sphinx moth caterpillars, hence its name. The moth of this species is called Black-rimmed Prominent and is a large, attractively patterned creature.
