Lluís Domčnech i Montaner was born in Barcelona on December 21st, 1850, and died on December 27th, 1923. He was one of the most important protagonists of Catalan Modernism, and several of his works have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Son of editor Pere Domčnech i Saló and Maria Montaner, he studied architecture and mathematical physics and graduated in 1873.
When he finished his studies, he was able to travel around Europe, exposing himself to new architectural trends. Upon returning to Barcelona, he joined the School of Architecture as a lecturer, and became its director in 1900, being able to train students such as Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Antoni Gaudí, Josep M. Jujol, ...
