Lluís Domčnech i Montaner is one of the greatest examples of Catalan modernist architecture. In 1878 he published an article titled In search of a National architecture, where he laid out the foundations of modern Catalan architecture.
In his architecture, he incorporated the lines of Art Nouveau curves, the use of brick, mosaics, ceramics, sgraffito, stained-glass windows...
From his main architectural works, there are two that have been declared World Heritage sites by UNESCO: Palau de la Música Catalana (1905-1908) and Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona (1902-1913).
