The Tennessee River is seen here at Decatur, AL, the site of Point Mallard Water Park. This is the Wheeler Lake area, named for Confederate General "Fightin' Joe" Wheeler, whose home is a few miles west. Part of the Tennessee Valley Authority, a series of dams built during the 1930's for electricity generation and to provide jobs during the Great Depression. You'd never know there are several water features/wave pools/floating pools within 250 yards of here. This part of the river also contains the wildlife refuge. I plan to go soon with different gear. The opportunities in the autumn to see migratory birds are pretty astonishing, I hear.
