Eristalis arbstorum

Spanaway, Washington

Syrphid flies start with the family Syrphidae and branch out from there into numbers of different classifications.
This one is just slightly smaller than a honey bee and at first I thought it was. The Eristalis ID comes from BugGuide.net. It is male.
It is suggested that it is arbustorum from the subgenus Eoseristalis. They look the same to me. All of this is for fun, I know nothing!
I am waiting to see if the, soon to be announced, 7DMkII will be something I want and can afford. the second want on my list is a macro lens.
