Signal flies (Rivellia)

Reveler Conservation Area. These tiny flies were clustered around something yummy on a milkweed leaf, but I have no idea what. These little flies are rarely so still. Normally upon landing, they walk around constantly flicking their wings. The name 'signal fly' comes from this habit, as it looks like they are signalling something. There are several similar species in the genus Rivellia.

I think they are jitterbugging. The one on the right is showing new steps. V

Great details on these flies, and so nice with the shadows adding depth. "V"

Well, so nice of them to stand still for you! Those shadows are quite effective and the sharpness excellent. V.

superb shot Christine...dazzling clarity, and the shadows enhance the almost 3D effect..
