This is Deera Square, sometimes known as Justice Square or Chop Chop Square, where public executions by beheading take place. The last time we were here (in October), the enclosed area (off in the distance, with the metal fence surrounding it) was quite small, but on the day I took this picture, it had expanded significantly. It was taken on a Saturday, the day after the executions are carried out. The headquarters of the religious police are on the far side of the square.
