Signs of a leafcutter bee

At home

The almost perfect circle cut from the leaf indicates leafcutter bees nearby. They cut out many circular pieces from leaves and use them to construct a tube, a cigar-shaped nest, in which they will lay eggs and provision with balls of pollen. Each tube can have several nests, separated by one of these leaf circles. Very clever. They construct these in bee boxes, under logs, rocks, under decks, or in other places where they can find a suitable dark, quiet safe place.
