It was a typically rainy day here in Reykjavik. We looked inside the Hallgrimskirkja for a little while then headed out to the National Museum of Iceland. This turned out to be a terrific place to visit. We spent almost four hours going through exhibits on only two floors. It was the kind of museum where you wanted to look at every single item in the exhibit and read all the cards. Additionally, there were video presentations which were particularly good. Icelandic history is very interesting and the museum presents all 1200 years of it in an excellent presentation.
In the afternoon we went to the Volcano Show. This was two one hour movies documenting the volcanoes of Iceland. The guy who took many of the movies if Villi Knudsen, and he was there in person. He was a character and the movies were interesting. We particularly liked the one about Heimaey in 1973. This one swallowed part of a town and was quite a news maker at the time.
We headed back to the hotel at about 5:30 ready to relax and prepare for tomorrow when we head out on our driving trip.
