There was a bander at the ranch for a couple of days, so we got to help trap them, watch the banding process, and release the birds. This female rufous only weighs 3.8 grams (that's about the same as 3 standard size paper clips.) The hummingbird is fine, when birds on their back they become temporarily paralyzed (called "tonic immobility") so this is an opportunity to weigh them. We did the same thing at the Raptor Center when weighing the birds.
