The upper body of the figure to the left of the lamassu in the preceding picture, shows the monumental size
as well as the incredible sculptural detail of these typical Assyrian guardian figures.
It is impressive to see the detail of the colossal figure holding the lion, baring his teeth and claws, and
threatening anyone who might think to invade the the city or citadel which they guard.
The male figure's eyes with the pupil detail, and his braided beard and hair,
are typical Assyrian representations of powerful male figures,
and show the close observation of the sculptor who created this gigantic image.
