We decided to check out the Kuwaiti Souk, which is now called Al Owais Markets, because I had heard they had a good jewelry section. We never found much jewelry (only a few contemporary shops, and I was looking for more traditional gold pieces), but the souk itself was interesting. It wasn’t what I had imagined – a grand, exotic hall – but rather several blocks of old buildings with countless shops selling pretty much everything you could want. At first I was a bit hesitant to even walk around there, but in the end enjoyed the experience and bought an inexpensive abaya and two flashy headscarves. How very normal for a visit to a souk!
We arrived before it really opened at 4:00 and right now I’m posting a few pictures just to give an idea of what it looks like. I also got a very late start today so hope to catch up with comments in down time (if I have any) at work.
