Basswood and Willow (for the musket). One of my carving buddies asked for a course on carving a caricature soldier. Most of the reference material that I found was on carving soldiers of the American civil war. However, there are some excellent cartoons of British soldiers, particularly those with large helmets. Given our British colonial past, this seemed more fitting for me, and it allowed me to be more creative in finding my own style of caricature.
