Close up, but of what?

Seattle, WA

I did something, and then I saw this.
I knew I had to get a photo quickly,
before it collapsed.

Over on The PhotoCamel there is a challenge called Guess the Close Up. "GTCU" I'm not very good at guessing but at the same time some of those guys are good at the images they post and some are very good at guessing. This would have been a good one except for the fact they prefer that you don't alter the image with photoshop effects.

Here is the current challenge if anyone wants to play along. As always if you win you post a new challenge. http://photocamel.com/forum/guess-close-up/199554-gtcu-1620-a.html

Woah, I'd never guessed that one. Paul

Very close, Paul. This is the kitchen sink. Every several months, we put a new box of baking soda in the fridge to help keep it smelling fresh. Then we dump the old box into the kitchen sink, to freshen that up a bit. When I dumped the box, it initially left a mound of baking soda over the drain. But then the center of the mound collapsed, leaving this X-shaped hole in the center. I ran to grab a camera, before the rest of the baking soda fell into the drain. Here is the same photo, without processing:

I had a floor drain plug fail recently at my rental home and the threads rusted out so screwing in a new one was not an option. I had to get a generic rubber plug and then sprayed it with that Leak Stop rubber spray stuff. The other option was to hammer the floor and replace it.

So in other words something like that. Paul.

Three quick hints:
1. The outer circle is about 4.5 inches in diameter.
2. Post processing included use of the "plastic wrap" and "poster edges" filters.
3. Traveller is "getting warm" with his guess.

Also, the "I did something" is the reason this thing was called into existence. So if anyone can guess what the object is, then I will reveal the thing that I had done.

A clean out plug for a pipe of some sort...the center x portion is for a wrench to fit into. Traveller

Or a depression in some viscous semi-liquid?

Very hard to guess this - inner circles are very uniform and close together, so it is probably solid, not liquid. Probably the bottom of something.
