In a bid to show that both dogs have an equal share of the limelight, here is JD. He’s being extremely good because he is in the process of being bribed to sit still and pose. DM is just out of shot with the bribe in his hand. It’s funny with dogs, the bribe they require for such a treat can be something completely unexpected. In this case, it’s a carrot. Yep, both our pampered pooches are carrot fiends and will happily beg for, have their attention captured for and even perform tricks for a chunk of carrot.
When I open the fridge, they generally ignore the move unless I pluck a carrot from the veggie tray in which case, they both come running because they know that one will get the top and the other will get the tail of the carrot before I cut up the rest of it to go into whatever I’m cooking. Don’t ask me how they know it’s a carrot without seeing me do it but they do and they know the result is a certain treat.
The practice started when the vet suggested it and it has become a common practice in our home. It’s a good, nutritious and low cal treat for them…not that either of them are overweight, it’s more about prevention rather than cure.
Don’tcha think he’s a cutie?
