'Cosmos'

Another artwork shot from the car. I had seen a sculpture of something like the cedars of Lebanon and wanted to see it again (and stop and take a picture), but this is where the driver took us. We were never able to find the trees again.

But it turns out that this is the famous Cosmos sculpture (thanks to Richard for recognizing it): "Ottmar Hollmann, a German sculptor, is credited with creating more than a dozen, including the Cosmos, which soars a jaw-dropping 36 meters (more than 118 feet) into the sky, making it one of the planet’s biggest sculptures." http://selamtamagazine.com/stories/amazing-sculptures-jeddah

I have been adding pictures pretty quickly to this gallery, which will really be pretty small, but I think its about time to finish up with Jeddah until we return, and I also want to start on my Janadriyah festival images!

For a full description of the enormous display of public art in Jeddah, see the main page of this sub-gallery.

I'm going to have to find some new words for superlative. "Amazing" and "Spectacular" are just too overused!

An interesting piece of art. It is hard to get a sense of the scale of it.

The ncredible Cosmos sculpture. Just read that it is over 140 feet high and took over seven years to complete. Wonderful capture of this fascinating structure!

Wow. That is an amazing piece. Nice find, Helen. I wonder if they have it lit up at night....
