Buckthorn control

One of our volunteers, Tony, came up with the idea of covering stumps of buckthorn with a heavy black plastic, such as a pool liner, staking it to the ground, and leaving in place. When the invasive buckthorn is cut, even at ground level, it quickly resprouts, but covering it with this plastic liner seems to prevent the regrowth.
