This image shows the mantle paler gray than that of Ring-billed Gull and American Herring Gull, limited gray on primaries, and brown smudging restricted to nape. The dark mark on the tail is shadow from the wingtips - note the same shadow on the Ring-billed Gull at the top of the photo.
