Taken from the bus. This large herd of camels was heading in the direction of the camel beauty pageant. Apparently many owners park their camels out in the desert and transport them to the festival from there rather than leaving them on the festival grounds. I think many camels are transported by truck, but perhaps some walk as well.
A friend of mine went with a group on a picnic out in the desert the other week. She said some camels came up to them out of nowhere and wanted some attention (and probably food, too). She didn’t know if they were wild or with an unseen herder, but was absolutely thrilled with the encounter. We’re going on a picnic with them in January. I sure hope we run into some friendly camels, too!
