Logroņo. Iglesia de Santa Maria de Palacio

he Church of Santa María de Palacio is one of four churches in Logroņo's old town.
One of the church's most prominent features is the octagonal spire, known to people of Logroņo as "la aguja" - "the needle".
Inside the Church of Santa María de Palacio is a complex structure, mainly due to considerable amount of enlarging and restructuring undertaken during its history.
It is thought that the church was build in the twelth-thirteenth centuries and later enlarged and reformed during the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.
The church's octagonal tower, "the needle" is thought to date back to the thirteenth century and one of the best examples of medieval Logroņo.
The main entrance is flanked by two pairs of fluted columns and a statue of the Virgin Mary with six angels holding instruments, all surrounded by a grand arch

Interesting history with this old church. Fascinating to contemplate how these old churches were build.
