The vessels and work have changed a lot since the early years.
Today boats have Dynamic Positioning capabilities and are overseen
by some manager in an office someplace. The captain is more a supervisor
and pilot than a boat handler and manager. With satellite internet and phone
service, the office is constantly involved in the running of the vessel. It is
a new world that I had left for too long while working on the ferries to be
able to return to. The job and people were not what I had been accustom to
from the 80s thru the 90s.
