When I got let go in 2009, I had just completed receiving my advanced
DP endorsement. Most companies were letting crews go and stacking boats.
An estimated 85,000 people lost their jobs in 2009 - 2010 from the offshore
downturn. Being there would be no jobs opening again for who knows how many
years, I made the decision to return to college to seek a degree. That was my
only option if I was get back on top in the job market.
So here I am entering 2014 over halfway towards a bachelors degree. The offshore
market is beginning to reopen, but I have put that behind me. As I move full ahead
on my current course, I pray that my path is straight and the One who holds the tiller
will keep me safe and Bless my voyage into the unknown.
