1500 BCE Egyptian Furnace

This is a full scale model of a furnace used for making glass
at Tell el-Amarna, Egypt, nearly 3500 years ago. The model
represents half of the furnace. The lower part was constructed
in a pit with the dome above ground. Raw materials were melted
on heat resistant crucibles placed on ledges above the fire.
The stoke hole was in the half of the furnace not seen here.
