This process coated a temporary core with glass which was fused and
then the core removed. The exact coating process is not known but might
be done by winding strands of molten glass, dipping in molten glass or
coating with a paste of frit (small chips of glass). Glassmakers in
Mesopotamia or Syria discovered the process. From about 1450 to 1100 BCE,
Egyptians made brightly colored, core-formed drinking vessels and perfume bottles.
