Delicious Pierogi

Warsaw, Poland

Pierogi (Polish for dumplings) are our national dish, traditionally stuffed with potato filling, sauerkraut, ground meat, cheese, or fruit.
I love those filled with blueberries or blackberries, and served with sweet cream, yum!

I've only had the potato kind. They are very popular in the Pittsburgh area, where I grew up. A large Polish population there!

I have only had potato pierogi and loved them. Didn't even know, or think, that you could fill them with fruit. My mouth is watering just looking at this image.

it was a feast when I was in Uzbekistan, eating vegetarian vereniki, pelmeni etc dumplings

Yes!Yes!Yes! I love pierogies! I like them stuffed with potato/sauerkraut filling and then sauteed in butter and onions and topped with sour cream. We used to be able to buy them frozen and I was looking for them just the other day but did not see any. Must try them filled with fruit!

My choice would be the sweet ones. We are having blackberry and apple crumble this weekend - an English favourite!
