by Michael Ramsay

Marsden quarry. They have been digging limestone out of the ground here since Roman times they say. These days the limestone is crushed and used in road construction.

I like to imagine they're building a beautiful lake-bed. The - may become a + one day.

The local government around here would not let them dig sideways to make the place bigger so all they could do was dig down.

Seems a pity to have to destroy such a large area of land just to get some rock, and this does look huge! I agree with Endika, this is more destruction than construction, even if what they are ripping the ground apart for is for the purpose of construction.

Good take on the theme! We could say this is de-construction although, or a construction "downwards" ;o) I'm a bit surprised because limestone quarries use to be mountains here, and not an open pit mine.
