Recording the history of Jennings as a half way point along the railroad between Lafayette and Lake Charles, the park is located along I-10 accessible to tourists.
In September of 1901 the first oil well in Louisiana was hit a few miles north of Jennings beginning the oil industry. A replica of that well stands adjacent to the visitor center. ALso an enclosure to display an alligator - so tourists can see up close and personal what one looks like. The park also has a 10 acre lake.
