The store opened in 1910 operating until 1949. The entire inventory remained on the shelves undisturbed until 1971 At that time Mr Tupper's grandson donated the store and its contents to the city for the creation of the museum.

The museum showcases what life was before our modern hectic lifestyle came about. People came to one place to shop, pick up their mail, and visit.
