This temple was built in 1634 and restored in 1937. Until the Dutch occupation in 1891, Mengwi was the center of a powerful kingdom.
The meru, made of palm fiber, are elevated in honor of the gods. The number of small roofs can - as on the picture - be up to 11 maximum, depending on the importance of the deity.
