On An Island. (Bali IV)

From a geographical point of view, this is undoubtedly an island. With its 3300 km2, it is one of the smallest of the Sunda Islands.
It is located near the Wallace line, a theoretical line, which forms the boundary between flora and fauna of Asia and those of Oceania. Thus, three-quarters of its surface feature Asian vegetation with paddy fields and coconut groves while the small peninsula that borders the south deep and dangerous Badung Strait is much more arid.

But it is also an island for another reason. Bali's population (4 million) is 98% Hindu. It is an enclave in the heart of Indonesia, where 86% of the 243 million people are Muslims.

Despite this environment, the Balinese have managed to preserve their rites, their culture and traditions that their perpetuate today, with a vibrant dynamism through their every day life as well as their colorful ceremonies, their music and all the others artistical expressions ...
