Detail from the tower

These pictures were taken by my husband, Tim Betts. He spent an awfully long time waiting to get up into the bell tower (hour and a half) while I took pictures of the basilica. I would like to have gone but didn't relish the 426 steps down on a very narrow sprial staircase. It turned out that you could take the elevator down, but my husband wasn't told this until boarding the elevator to the top.

The bells (projected to be 60 in total) started ringing while my husband was in the tower:

I bet that was deafening. Your husband has a good eye. Nicely composed and captured. V.

To my opinion, it will never be finished, so the scaffolding is a part of the building! The sound of those bells would scare the hell out of me whilst up there.

Remarkable. Even the scaffolding can't distract from the beauty. V
