Gypsy moth, female, on egg mass (Lymantria dispar), #8318

Photographed near Carleton Place. The females are almost flightless and when seen are usually next to their eggs as here. The males are a dark brown with very feathery antennae.

This is one moth I do see that usually means a loss of foliage. Very nice and detailed close up. V.
