Giant Stonefly

Pteronarcys dorsata

Yellowstone NP

A huge swarm of these very large insects emerged while we were in Yellowstone. The locals call them salmon flies. I assumed it was because fishermen use them as bait to catch salmon but apparently the name comes from the pinkish color on them. They were quite impressive both in size and sheer numbers.
