Photographed in Rockcliffe Park. This fly had me bemused as I could not figure out what it was... I saw it only from behind with wings spread, for about 5 seconds, long enough for this one shot. Finally sent it to Bug Guide where the knowledgeable folk identified it as Dioctria hyalipennis, a Robber Fly (Asilidae). It is on goutweed.
