Evening primrose moth (Schinia florida)

Now is the time to look for these striking pink and white moths. This is their typical pose, resting during the day inside an evening primrose flower. They are not found all that readily and one needs to check scores of primrose plants. Fortunately, this native plant is common alongside trails and roadsides, as long as the powers that be haven't mowed the sides of either!!

I've heard of "head in the sand" but never "head in the flower" like this!
