Walter took us on sightseeing the beautiful "Esmeralda", that arrived at Bravo Pier in downtown San Diego the other day.
Esmeralda (BE-43) is a steel-hulled four-masted barquentine tall ship in the Chilean Navy and is currently the second tallest and longest sailing ship in the world.
Since commissioning, Esmeralda has been a training ship for the Chilean Navy with only the top graduates of Chile’s Naval Academy assigned to her.
She goes on a cruise every year to teach the young cadets the law of the sea.
At every port the tall ship is greeted by the Chilean ambassador and naval and local authorities, before embarking on social, cultural, and sightseeing activities.
Esmeralda has visited more than 300 ports worldwide acting as a floating embassy for Chile.
