Close-up Of Cactus Needles

I must have been under the influence of alcohol when I took this shot. For reasons beyond my comprehension, the ISO was
set to 3200 instead of 200, and I was shooting on a tripod of course. The result is considerable noise in the shadow
areas, which I tried to eliminate with Adobe Camera Raw noise software. I was only partially successful. So
the quality of this image is less than it could have been. No more booze for me.

By the way, the noise is apparent at 200% in the dark areas but not at this level. Hank is right.

Love the info, Jay!! ;o)
Not a plant to tangle with, methinks!
Fine shot despite the high ISO.

Still a better than fine image, Jay.

Quite frankly, I like this! The high ISO gives good light, and the noise isn't obvious here. I don't think you have to give up booze!

This is a beautiful image, Jay! I agree with Hank. Actually when I photograph an image I can't change in some way I'm not happy but then I'm not a photographer. \/

It really looks good, Jay. Ouch on those sharp, finely detailed needles!

A stark reminder of how sharp these needles are rather than any noise.

I like it Jay...wonderful details in the cactus...BV

A good image Jay. I don't find the noise excessive either, perhaps if you made a much larger image it would be. Amazing how, in spite of us screwing up (and we all do), the camera and processing can usually still salvage the day.

Looks fine to me Jay, using digital we get used to noise and I don't see that it is that bad or distracting so, well I like the image, whats not to like....
Jim Coffman12-Jun-2013 23:35
I don't think it is all that bad,Jay!

I agree with Sam. No more booze? My heart
almost stopped at the thought!

LOL at your description!
I like this image! :)

Don't be too hard on yourself, Jay. Yes, some noise in the shadows but not a bad image. Perhaps a vertical comp, but that's just a personal preference. (of course, you'd loose the cool shadows on either side if you did that).
