Very beautiful, but lying in a remote, little-known and rarely visited place, 16 miles from Tuba City.
Coal Mine Canyon is a long way from any famous attraction and is not signposted in any way, so it's hard to get there.
The main interest comes from the detail of the rock - the colors, forms and textures of the eroded sandstone - rather, than the large scale appeal of such grand places as Grand Canyon or Monument Valley.
We managed to get there thanks to accurate guidance from our pbase friends: Tom Narwid and Doug Sherman, at the time of our meeting in Sedona. Thank you my friends :)
