Apparently the boreal owl has been at the same location (Fletcher Wildlife Gardens) for about one month now. It was one of my most sought after birds this winter and was a treat to finally see one.
The boreal owl is distinguished from its similar looking cousin, the northern saw-whet owl mainly by the dots on its head. The saw-whet owl has stripes on its head compared to the dots found on the boreal owl's head.
