The two birds have similar plumages; the curlew, on the right, is larger; its bi-colored pink and dark gray bill is down-curved and very long, where the godwit's similarly colored bill (not fully visible in this picture) is slightly up-curved and, while long, never reaches the extreme length of this curlew's bill.
