K is for KILL A WATT

PaD February - Alphabet

An example of a KILL A WATT meter in action!

This amazing little device measures several electrical parameters
of any A.C. device plugged into it. The concept is if you know how
much power is consumed by your appliances you can KILL A few of
those WATTs. The idea is interesting, but I find usually there is
nothing you can do about it short of not using the appliance!

It is shown displaying the power consumption of my gutter heater.
In previous years I've had problems with frozen gutters causing
water to leak into the walls. So far the heater has kept the gutter
clear of ice, but at what cost? About a $1.60 a day when the sensor
detects the temperature is below 45.
