At the end of Castle Road (Vár street) there is the statue of István (St. Stephen), the first Hungarian king, and his wife blessed Gisella.
István died in 1038 and this neo romanesque double-statue was erected in 1938, on the 900th anniversary of his death.
The city invited the sculptor József Ispánky to create this monument wich was located at the northern extremity of the Veszprém castle wich is close to the Cathedral.
Since then the monument has become a symbol of the city.
